Nintendo are poised to unleash yet another member to the ever growing DS family ; the Nintendo DSi XL. The general concensus has been this release is surplus to requirements, but Nintendo were quick to assure users this console is not intended to replace the current DSi, simply to serve as an alternative choice.
As the title implies, the Nintendo DSi XL is abigger version of the DSi. The frame has been swapped for a chunky mould and the displays have been lengthened by about a full in. to 4.2 inches. These larger displays are a great addition and push the Nintendo DSi XL nearer to the display dominance of the PSP. Games appear larger and clearer than before and, a little pixelation aside, appear much better in this case.
Along with the screen, the Nintendo DSi XL has built upon the speakers packed into the larger frame. One of the small complaints with the DSi is the audio was found wanting in some titles, so increased speakers should remedy the problem. The Nintendo DSi XL also revisits the snappy gloss finish of the first DS.
TheNintendo DSi XL is an alternative choice for people that prefer their videogaming a little bigger. Various game-players called for the DSi to be made smaller, sleeker and less heavy to make the portability less complicated. On this note, the DSi remains the wiser option. The DSi XL is perhaps a wiser option for those who use the DSi at home or when stationary instead of on the move.
Therefore it really is a question of preference. The Nintendo DSi XL provides a bigger, chunkier videogaming experience but decreases the simplicity of travel associated with earlier incarnations. If this is your sort of thing, then try it out. If not - don’t fear! The existing DSi will be around for a long while yet!
