We keep hearing lately about wireless charging. Different companies keep popping up, offering us solutions to try and manage all our gadgets needs.
Does wireless charging really provide us with solution to the endless number of cables hanging around in our house and behind our work desk? The mess surrounding us at work is unbelievable. We keep buying more and more gadgets; each one comes with different charger, different USB port and different shapes and sizes. As there is no standard for chargers, each company simply invents and design its own way of charging its gadget.
Try calculating the number of portable devices you own. Different music players, at least one mobile phone, probably even 2, not counting your other family members. The number of mobile phones in your house can reach 10 or even 12! Now let’s not forget your game consoles, PDA’s, GPS, Laptops and more and more
No matter how you look at it, each one of us owns and uses at least 4 or five portable devices that needs to be charged. At the moment, there are two leading companies that offer us solution to the problem. wildcharge was the first to revolutionize the way we charge our gadgets by developing a unique surface that can wirelessly charge different gadgets Because the WildCharge characteristic metal contact points (e.g. integrated into a cell phone skin) are magnetized, the device is attracted to the Pad’s conductive surface and solidly held in place once it touches down in any configuration with a satisfying clack. WildCharge technology works instantaneously on metal-on-metal contact. The Pad transmits electricity to the adapter element’s exposed contact points, charging the device. It is that simple. Some devices released to the market are already Wildcharge compatible. That means you don’t have to buy any accessories in order to charge them, except for the WildCharge charging pad. Devices that are not compatible with WildCharge, like the iPhone, can be equipped with a special case or sleeve that contains a small pad that can connect to the charging pad. Up to 4 different devices can be charged at once. Wildcharge is retailing for $79.99 and comes with one skin for iPhone
[spin]powermat, established in 2007, uses the same technology as WildCharge. The only difference is the design of the charging pad, sleeves and cases. While the WildCharge pad is designed for home or office use only, Powermat also offers and folding pad that can be carried with you everywhere you go: business trip, holiday or just around the house. The portable charging pad consists of 3 plates that can be folded into a small case. Weighing less than 0.9 pounds it is extremely compact and easy to use. Powermat also offers 8 different ports that can be connected to the charging pad, and is compatible with more than 300,000,000! Different devices that are currently on the market. The Powermat is retailing for $99.99 and does not include any cases or sleeves.
So, do these companies really solve the problem of endless chords and different chargers? It’s hard to say. Although the idea and technology are great innovations, we can’t forget that the charging pad still needs to be connected to a power outlet… also, having the need of buying different adapters for different devices makes the whole thing a bit useless. Currently this solution will help those who own more than 5 devices, and there are quite many. Also, the gadget lovers cannot give up on such cool solution. We believe that in the future most of the devices on the market will be equipped with a wireless charging solution and will turn these gadgets to a must have in every home and office.
